मनःप्रसादः सौम्यत्वं मौनमात्मविनिग्रहः।भावसंशुद्धिरित्येतत्तपो मानसमुच्यते।।17.16।।
Tranquility of mind, gentleness, reticence, withdrawal of the mind, purity of heart—these are what are called mental austerities.
Osho’s Commentary
And finally, the austerity of the mind. Manah-prasadah, a serene, cheerful, gracious state of mind. Saumyatvam, gentleness. Maunam, silence—not just of speech, but a deep inner silence where the chattering of thoughts has ceased. Atma-vinigrahah, self-control. And bhava-sanshuddhir, the purity of your very being, your inner feeling. This is the ultimate austerity. It is to create a mind that is a silent, pure, and loving space, a mind that can reflect the divine reality without any distortion.
